Tsunami Risks and Damage

Tsunami Risk Assessment

The tsunami damage and exposure results are a first-of its-kind for California and provide consistent population exposure and loss estimates using the best-available methods and data. These results are provided at the County and State-levels to provide resources for tsunami planning for emergency management at both the local and state-wide levels through an interactive dashboard developed by the California Tsunami Program.

Tsunami Debris

When a tsunami strikes, it doesn’t just bring water, it can also carry massive amounts of debris. This includes everything from small building materials to large objects like cars, boats, and shipping containers. These floating items can damage infrastructure, block evacuation routes, and greatly increase cleanup costs.
