CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit
The CSTI Fire and Rescue Training Unit provides training and exercise support through the highly acclaimed California Specialized Training Institute. The unique challenges responders face requires constant training to maintain specialized skills and competencies in all the programs CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit supports. This support is provided to both the experienced veteran team member as well as those seeking to enhance their skills and capabilities as they enter these specialized disciplines. Our mission is to support these programs through training and exercise and ensure readiness from an all-hazards training and exercise approach.

Fire All-Hazards
The CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit’s Fire All-Hazards program supports Fire training and exercises throughout the State of California. Training support extends to large urban departments as well as rural departments in the six Cal OES Regions throughout State. The training includes, but is not limited to, FEMA All-Hazards Position Specific (AHPS), Incident Command System (ICS) and California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OFSM) State Fire Training (SFT) courses.

Hazardous Materials
The CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit’s Hazardous Materials program provides training and exercises coordination for the Cal OES Regional Hazardous Materials Response (RHMR) Program. The program includes 12 hazardous materials response vehicles which are deployed throughout the State of California, two per Cal OES Region. Cal OES has partnered with local government assignees to maintain hazardous materials response coverage to communities throughout the state.

Maritime
The CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit’s Maritime program provides interagency coordination and support to maritime training programs and initiatives associated with marine firefighting and activities on navigable waterways. Our mission is to provide support in the development, coordination, delivery, and implementation of maritime training programs in the State of California.

Urban Search & Rescue (US&R)
The CSTI Fire & Rescue Training Unit’s Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) program supports training and exercise throughout the State of California for eight California FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces, and eleven California Regional Task Forces. These teams can include individuals comprised of firefighters, engineers, medical professionals, canine/handler teams, hazardous materials technicians, emergency managers, and a wide variety of services dependent upon the event with highly specialized training and special skills, equipment and techniques that allow them to work in extremely dangerous conditions. It can serve as a resource for disaster response at local, state, tribal, federal, and international levels.
