School Facilities Vulnerability Assessment
Active shooters, school violence, and physical threats are an unfortunate reality for educational facilities throughout the State of California and our nation. After every school shooting, California fusion centers receive requests to do vulnerability assessments for public and private schools across the state. In order to help resource the demand, the State Threat Assessment System (STAS) Infrastructure Protection Working Group (IPWG) created a subcommittee focused on developing a vulnerability assessment training curriculum.
Through these efforts, the “Vulnerability Assessments-School Facilities-Basic Course” was approved by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) on August 8, 2019. This webpage announces upcoming vulnerability assessment training, provides points of contact for each fusion center, and acts as a document library for publications that will assist in the education and promulgation of vulnerability assessment best practices.

California State Threat Assessment System
The State Threat Assessment System (STAS) helps safeguard the communities of California by serving as a dynamic security nexus comprised of the State, four Regional and a major urban area Fusion Center.
The STAS assists in the detection, prevention, investigation and response to criminal and terrorist activity, disseminates intelligence and facilitates communications between state, local, federal, tribal agencies and private sector partners, to help them take action on threats and public safety issues.
