The Public Assistance Division provides assistance to state agencies, local governments, special districts and eligible private non-profit organizations impacted by a disaster in order to achieve a safer future for all California communities. The Public Assistance Division ensures state and federal support is provided to applicants in an efficient and timely manner in order to assist in recovery from a major disaster or emergency.

Individuals seeking disaster assistance should refer to the Recovery Individual Assistance Division.

​Programs available to state agencies, local governments, special districts and eligible private non-profit organizations

California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA)

CDAA provides state financial assistance for recovery efforts to cities and/or counties, and certain private nonprofit organizations special districts after a state disaster has been declared.

 

CDAA Fact Sheet

State Private Nonprofit (PNP) Organizations Assistance Program

The State Private Nonprofit Organizations Assistance Program, allows certain eligible Private Nonprofits (PNP) or an Intermediary PNP applicant to receive state assistance for providing essential community services during a state declared disaster.

Federal Disaster Assistance (DR & EM)

Federal financial assistance for recovery efforts is made available to cities, counties, state agencies and eligible private non-profits after a federal disaster has been declared.

Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG)

Federal financial assistance is provided to state agencies, local governments, special districts and Indian Tribal Governments for emergency response and fire suppression activities for federally declared fires.

Other Available Programs

Debris Management

Provides assistance to state agencies, local governments, and Indian Tribal Governments to maximize disaster funding and speed recovery in affected areas. Also provides assistance with the creation of a debris management plan.

Environmental-Historic

Provides subject matter expertise with regard to state and federal environmental and historic laws/regulations
